Reports in Italy on Monday morning claim that Federico Dimarco is set to line up among the starters for Inter’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich coming up on Wednesday night.

The Italy international has been an integral part of Simone Inzaghi’s team in recent seasons, but was dealt a blow in March when he was ruled out for a number of weeks with a hamstring injury, which also kept him out of the Nations League quarter-finals between Italy and Germany.

While Dimarco has started in all of Inter’s last three Serie A matches since the international break, he has come off around the 60th minute in all of them, and was not deemed fit enough to start against Bayern in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final, nor against Milan in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg earlier in April.

Carlos Augusto started at left wing-back in both of those matches in Dimarco’s absence.

However, according to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday, the 27-year-old is expected to start for the return leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Bayern in San Siro on Wednesday.

The Pink Paper reports that Inzaghi will still need to manage the wing-back’s minutes, which means that he could be brought off midway through the second half, as has been the case in recent Serie A matches. Carlos Augusto is, again, the go-to replacement if that does happen.

The Nerazzurri currently have a 2-1 lead in the tie thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi in Bavaria last week.
