Corinthians beat Independiente Santa Fe 2-0 in the Libertadores second round on Wednesday, sealing a third straight clean sheet under Fernando Diniz, who praised the team’s collective defending.

As reported by Meu Timao, Diniz stressed that defending involves all 11, not just the back four, and highlighted a late moment when Pedro Raul sprinted from an attacking corner to shield Hugo Souza’s goal within four or five seconds.

It was Diniz’s third match in charge and the third without conceding. He debuted away to Platense in the opening round, winning 2-0.

Next came a 0-0 Dérbi with Palmeiras at Neo Química Arena, where the backline was stretched after André Luiz and right-back Matheuzinho were sent off. With nine men for about 20 minutes, Corinthians limited the visitors to five shots on target.

In the Santa Fe win at the same venue, Hugo Souza was busier, making seven saves.

Diniz said the squad are gradually taking on his short build-ups and quick passing, and he believes the assimilation is happening quickly. He added that he is pleased with what he has seen in training and matches.

With little time to recover, Corinthians visit Vitória at Estádio Manoel Barradas in Bahia on Saturday, in the 12th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
