Injuries have again caused Manchester United’s season to go up in flames, with quite a few high-profile names suffering long-term injuries.
It all started from pre-season as new signing Leny Yoro picked up an injury that kept him out for four months. Soon after came the huge blow of losing Lisandro Martinez for not only the rest of the campaign but for the entire year.
Arguably, the biggest loss was Amad, who had proven to be a talisman under Ruben Amorim, always rising to the occasion for the team.
Joshua Zirkzee has also been sidelined for the remainder of the campaign while just before the season-defining Europa League semi-final, the head coach dropped a bomb by revealing Diogo Dalot had picked up a calf injury which would mean he could miss the rest of the season.
The full-back prides himself on his fitness record and given United’s obvious lack of options at wingback, it came as a huge loss.
But The Daily Mail have claimed that the Portugal international is not exactly ruled out for the rest of the campaign. Should United triumph against Athletic Club, Dalot could return for the final on May 21.
“Confidential understands Diogo Dalot could also feature again if United reach the final on May 21. It had been feared Dalot wouldn’t play again his season after he missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Bournemouth with a calf injury.
“The Portugal defender tried to manage the problem after feeling discomfort in his calf during the Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon.
“Dalot dropped to the bench when United faced Wolves at Old Trafford three days later and came on in the 59th minute. However, the problem grew worse and Ruben Amorim feared Dalot’s season could be over before the trip to Bournemouth.”
Interestingly, Amorim had hinted at his compatriot’s return before the season in an interview with club media.
“There is that possibility, but I don’t know. We will check week-by-week because he works really hard. He can recover quite well, we’ll see.”
Not only Dalot, but Amad is also inching closer to a miraculous comeback before time. It had seemed like the Ivorian would miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury during training.
But as recently relayed by The Peoples Person, he is back in training and there is a great chance he could feature against Brentford next week and in the second leg against Athletic.
