According to Glorioso 1904, the Portuguese Football Federation’s Disciplinary Council has increased Benfica director general Mário Branco’s suspension to a total of 25 days over incidents after the 32nd round match at Famalicão.
He was initially handed a 20-day preventive ban, which has now been extended by five following the disciplinary process. He was also fined 3,876 euros, the amount aggravated due to repeat offence.
The decision accepted referee Gustavo Correia’s match report as proven. He reported being subjected to insults from Branco after the final whistle.
The officiating of the 2 May fixture drew strong complaints from Benfica. The club highlighted an alleged unawarded penalty at 2-0, the booking of Richard Ríos that ruled him out of the next game against Sporting de Braga, and the 15 minutes of added time.
President Rui Costa also voiced dissatisfaction and was later suspended for 25 days in relation to the same match. The ruling closes another disciplinary chapter from one of the most contentious games of the Portuguese league run-in.
