Women’s Champions League draw kicks off new era on Disney

The draw for the Women’s Champions League begins at 11:00 BST on Friday, and will reveal fixtures for the League Phase of the newly formatted competition.

Nine teams are already confirmed for the League Phase. These include reigning champions Arsenal, Chelsea, Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, VfL Wolfsburg, Barcelona, Benfica and Juventus.

Another nine clubs will join them after the second legs of the third qualifying round are completed on Thursday.

Manchester United face Brann on Thursday night, but will need to overcome a 1-0 deficit after losing the first-leg in Norway last week.

After the draw fans can stream the entire 2025/26 tournament on Disney+ from 7 October. All 75 matches will be broadcast live across Europe under the standard subscription, making the service a new home for top-level women’s football.

Disney+ EMEA general manager Karl Holmes described the UEFA Women’s Champions League as “the very best in football performance dedication and passion,” signalling the platform’s intent to raise its sports profile.

Women’s Champions League format for 2025-26 season

The 2025/26 season introduces a restructured format with 18 teams playing six matches each in the League Phase. Every club faces six different opponents, with an equal split between home and away games.

The top four teams in the standings will progress straight to the quarterfinals and gain home advantage. Teams ranked fifth to twelfth will compete in two-legged play-offs to secure the remaining quarterfinal spots.

The format follows the system which was first introduced in the men’s competition last season.

Shifting sports rights

Disney+ deal to broadcast the Women’s Champions League ends DAZN’s four-season run as the main broadcaster of the competition in Europe.

TNT Sports also showed select games in the UK during that period. Disney+ now steps into a growing streaming sports market.

In March, the platform reported 125 million subscribers worldwide. Netflix recently secured rights to broadcast the 2027 and 2031 Women’s World Cups in the USA, underlining fierce competition among major platforms for women’s football rights.
