Rangers’ bid to sign Sheffield Wednesday winger Djeidi Gassama is in doubt, despite him passing a medical with the Ibrox club, according to the Sheffield Star.
Owls chairman Dejphon Chansiri is in talks to sell the English Championship club and has accepted a bid, but this could scupper outgoing transfers.
A new owner will want to make own decisions on the Wednesday players, which could delay in Gassama’s Rangers switch.
The Mauritania-born dribbling sensation has finalised his personal agreement with the Scottish Premiership club, while both clubs have agreed terms of a sale.
Having already said ‘goodbye’ to his Wednesday teammates, Gassama has met with the Rangers manager Russell Martin and players, and he has been pictured in the training kit at St George’s Park.
Much of the documentation has been completed but the deal is not finalised and it remains to be seen whether Chansiri will sign it and approve his exit.
Rangers have signed Emmanuel Fernandez, Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons, Lyall Cameron, Thelo Aasgard and Joe Rothwell this summer, and Gassama is expected to be next.
The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker has bagged 12 goals and four assists in 84 appearances for Wednesday.
His ability to feature on both wings and through the middle would be huge for Rangers if the proposed move goes through.
Progressing to the opening phase of the Champions League will be on Martin’s mind as they host Panathinaikos in the first-leg of their qualifying tie on July 22.
He will be hoping the Wednesday chairman does not delay Gassama’s move so he can feature against the Greek club.
