Manchester City will face off against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they look to secure a positive result in the Premier League season opener. The Mancunian club secured an easy 3-0 win over Palermo in a pre-season friendly recently, which should keep them in good spirits going into this weekend.

Pep Guardiola will set his players up in a 4-3-2-1 formation and is expected to name a strong first XI for this game. Jeremy Doku, Bernardo Silva and Illkay Gundogan will all play from the start of this clash against Wolves.

Defence

Ederson should get the nod to operate in between the sticks for Man City this weekend. Ruben Dias will operate alongside Manuel Akanji at the heart of Guardiola’s defence as they look to keep things solid at the back during the 90 minutes.

Matheus Nunes will try to catch the eye as the right-back, while Rayan Ait-Nouri hopes to give a good account of himself on the other flank as the left-back. Both of them will have to pick and choose their moments to join in on the attack.

John Stones and Rico Lewis will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Tijjani Reijnders will make up Man City’s midfield. Their main job would be to retain possession well at the centre of the park and create some inviting chances for their teammates to score up top.

Both Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki would operate just ahead of them as Guardiola’s attacking midfielders. The dynamic duo would be eager to put their quickness to good use so that they can engineer some clear-cut opportunities in the final third.

Nico Gonzalez and Oscar Bobb will have to be content with a place on the bench as they wait for their chance to shine in the second 45 minutes, if needed.

Attack

Erling Haaland will lead the line for the Mancunian giants up top. The Norway international would be hungry to find the back of the net and get his season off to a flying start this weekend.

Omar Marmoush will be available for selection on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if required.
