Dominic Calvert-Lewin says he is enjoying football again after a 95th-minute winner for Leeds against Brighton capped a superb debut season at Elland Road, taking him to 14 Premier League goals, his best return since 2020/21 and the second-highest of his career.

"That's the life of a striker. Sometimes you have to wait a while to get your chance but you’ve always got to be tuned in and thankfully I was today. You know if you get one chance you can score," he told Match of the Day.

The striker pounced on a short Jan Paul van Hecke back-pass, rounded Bart Verbruggen and rolled into an empty net to give the home crowd a final celebration.

"I've loved it [this season]. It's been so enjoyable. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity here and to be able to enjoy my football again. I’m at my best when I’m enjoying what I do."

Leeds visit West Ham on Sunday for their final game. Thomas Tuchel is due to name his England World Cup squad before the last round, with Calvert-Lewin among possible back-ups to Harry Kane after three in his last three. The goal also made him the joint-highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League alongside Ollie Watkins and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Asked about World Cup hopes, he said: "Let's see. It's going to be busy anyway, I've got a two-and-a-half-year-old."
