FIFA has converted Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension into a one-match ban, suspended for one year, leaving the AS Monaco forward available for the World Cup last 16.

The United States president, Donald Trump, thanked FIFA for the decision. The president said in a post on Truth Social that it had done what was right and corrected a grave injustice.

Balogun was sent off in the last 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a 2-0 win, for an unintentional studs-on-heel challenge.

Following the ruling, the striker remains eligible to play while the suspended sanction hangs over him for the next year.

The United States face Belgium in Seattle overnight Monday to Tuesday, with kick-off at two am.
