Barcelona fans waiting to see their beloved team return to Spotify Camp Nou may have wait in vain, according to a recent report from Diario SPORT.

The Spanish news publication has outrightly denied the possibility of a return to Camp Nou this season, citing several delays in construction works and other logistical factors.

What’s holding back the Camp Nou project?

As per the report, the construction works at Spotify Camp Nou are progression, but not at the pace Barcelona were hoping for.

The latest news coming in from from Catalonia is that the club have offered various contracts to construction companies for public and VIP areas.

Although the works are scheduled to start in a week or so, it will take three months for the projects to be completed.

Barcelona’s idea was to return to the stadium with an initial capacity of 60,000 fans. However, the club have realised that accommodation of fans while the other tiers are work-in-progress is not a viable option.

As such, Barcelona plan to complete the entire seating structure first, leaving only the roof to be finished by the summer of 2026.

While this may ultimately bode well for Barcelona in the long run, it will delay Camp Nou’s return in the shorter term.

The report even suggests that Barcelona are unsure about whether or not they can start next season at Camp Nou, taking into account the additional delays.

This could have major financial implications for the club as they continue to lose out on the revenue potential of the revamped Spotify Camp Nou.

The club, meanwhile, are facing pressure from UEFA, which is demanding an update on the project by March 31. But as mentioned earlier, the club won’t be returning to Camp Nou this season unless something drastic happens.
