Manchester United target Gianluigi Donnarumma might end up leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer despite playing a crucial role in their Champions League glory.
Considered one of Europe’s best shot-stoppers, the Italy international is a physically imposing goalkeeper who likes to dominate his penalty area. He was by far the most reliable figure between the sticks in the Champions League last term.
However, Donnarumma faces an uncertain future at Parc des Princes due to disagreement over terms of his new contract.
The 26-year-old wants to continue in the French capital under Luis Enrique. However, he is refusing to lower his salary demands to fit the club’s wage structure, imposed by Luis Campos.
His current deal is due to run out at the end of the season, sparking interest from a number of clubs, including United.
It is understood that PSG are willing to listen to offers for the disgruntled star.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims United are the “frontunners” for Donnarumma’s signature.
United have been reportedly following the Italian for some time, and “in the last few hours their chances have increased significantly.”
That is due to the possible arrival of Lucas Chevalier. PSG have agreed a deal to sign the highly-rated Lille number one.
Any concrete approach from United for Donnarumma may rely on PSG’s valuation, as the Red Devils’ transfer budget is very limited.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United have effectively ruled out a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez due to the costs involved.
According to Sports Zone, the Premier League giants have now made contact with PSG to explore the possibility of signing their current number one.
However, United face competition from big spenders Al-Ittihad and Galatasaray, who have offered him nearly €20m per year to join.
Chelsea and Manchester City have also made enquiries for the ex-AC Milan star but City’s priorities may change following the arrival of James Trafford.
