Dorival Júnior says José Martínez reported back injured and is scheduled for tests on Monday, so he is unlikely to feature in the coming days.

According to Meu Timao, the Venezuelan midfielder rejoined on Saturday after passport problems in his homeland kept him out since three January. He applied for a new document on 13 January, with the passport issued last Friday.

The coach said Martínez is with the medical staff and that he has not yet held a full conversation with the player. Talks should soon involve president Osmar Stabile, executive Marcelo Paz and himself to clarify next steps.

The saga has caused frustration internally, with Dorival previously noting difficulties in reaching the player. He has also highlighted a shortage of defensive-minded midfielders in the squad, making Martínez’s absence more keenly felt.

In January, Martínez attributed the delay to bureaucracy in Venezuela and reiterated his wish to rejoin training as soon as possible. He said he remained in regular contact with the club, while Stabile recently stated there was still no decision on any measures over the delay.
