While it has been a surprisingly slow start on the transfer front to date, Borussia Dortmund's summer spending is apparently not finished.
In a media briefing this morning, Tuesday 14 July, BVB sporting director Lars Ricken outlined the Westphalian club's rough plans.
It's been written often enough that Schlotterbeck is gone, and Guirassy, Nmecha, and Ryerson too – no, they're all here.
“I think that's extremely important,” the 50-year-old explained, before remarking on their frustration regarding recruiting players.
"Of course not satisfied with that [our lack of signings]. We want to make one, two, three more really good transfers.
“But we want to make the right transfers and not just any transfers that get us short-term applause and then in November we suddenly have the problem.
“'Were those really the right transfers?' We're taking the time to sign players who will ultimately make us better,” Ricken added.
Regarding the arrivals of Joane Gadou, Kauã Prates and Justin Lerma, the Dortmund chief gave his take on the squad's current state.
"Gadou has really strengthened our central defense, [...] and with players like Reggiani and Inácio, we've essentially added new signings.
“We didn't necessarily expect them to be this far along already and to have such a positive impact on the game,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Ricken also put a little pressure on the new signings from the previous summer, who had sometimes shown initial difficulties:
“We have players that we signed last summer, with Silva, Chukwuemeka and Bellingham – I believe they will improve and that is also our expectation, that they will take the next step.”
