Borussia Dortmund are still attempting to claw back Bayern Munich's Bundesliga title advantage and making history in the process.
Niko Kovač is on course to move to within three points of his former employers after the Black and Yellow raced into a commanding first-half lead against Mainz on Friday.
Serhou Guirassy put the hosts ahead at Signal Iduna Park in the tenth minute and racked up a history-equalling feat in the German top flight by doing so.
It was the 15th time that Kovač's side have scored first in consecutive Bundesliga fixtures; a record which only two other teams have previously accomplished.
They were Hamburg's class of 1980 and Dortmund themselves in 2013, when Jürgen Klopp guided the club to a Champions League final against - who else - Bayern..
