Dudu thanked Palmeiras fans after Atlético-MG's 2-1 win at Nubank Parque in São Paulo, his first visit to the stadium since a contentious exit at the end of 2024.

Before kick-off an organised supporters' group chanted his name and he greeted the Verdão mascots on the pitch. He remained on the bench and did not play. The player said in a post that he was grateful for the affection and highlighted friendships from two spells.

In December last year he started for Palmeiras in a 3-0 win over Atlético-MG in Belo Horizonte.

Across a decade at Palmeiras he won 12 trophies and recorded 462 appearances, 88 goals and 102 assists, cementing his status as a modern club idol.

After returning from a serious right-knee injury, mid-2024 brought controversy as he agreed a move to Cruzeiro with Palmeiras' approval and the Minas Gerais club announced it, but he reversed his decision. Relations with the board deteriorated, and president Leila Pereira said publicly his cycle at the club had ended.

From June 2024 he played 19 times, starting four. His contract was terminated on 12 December that year. In May 2025 he was announced by Atlético-MG, and this year he has 28 outings, four goals and two assists.
