Manchester United’s hierarchy could address their striker department next summer as well.
United beat the likes of Newcastle United to secure the services of highly rated RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko in a deal worth €85 million ahead of the new season.
Over the past two terms, no player under the age of 23 has scored more goals in Europe’s top five leagues than United’s latest recruit. However, question marks remain over his ability to spearhead the Red Devils’ attack all on his own.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), United are among the clubs that could sign Dusan Vlahovic on a free transfer next summer.
The 25-year-old is viewed as one of Europe’s most well-rounded forwards, and has started the new campaign on fire, scoring twice against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League opener. He also boasts two goals in three Serie A appearances.
However, Juventus have failed to strike an agreement over a renewal with the Serbian, who has entered the final year of his contract in Turin.
As such, he is expected to leave the Old Lady at the end of his contract in June.
United face competition from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for Vlahovic’s signature. Still, as per journalist Fabiana Della Valle, the prolific number nine’s priority is to move to the Premier League next summer.
The Serbian international will reportedly demand €10m-a-year salary and a €10m signing bonus.
The Italian publication claim United are “constantly changing” and will look to sign a more consistent goalscorer than Joshua Zirkzee.
The Red Devils have already shipped out Rasmus Hojlund on loan to Napoli. The Serie A giants are obligated to sign the Dane if they secure Champions League football.
As such, a move for Vlahovic would make a lot of sense for United, allowing Sesko to develop at his own pace.
Sesko has allegedly left the club’s coaches and teammates impressed with his exploits in training. However, Amorim has taken a cautious approach with him, having only handed the youngster one Premier League start so far.
