Eagles and Bafana Bafana Share Spoils in Crucial Group Clash
Nigeria renewed its hopes of qualifying for the 2026 World cup after 1 - 1 draw against South Africa in the 8th round of African qualifiers.
The result denied the Bafana Bafana automatic qualification postponing the group’s decisive outcomes to October.
South Africa took the lead in the 25 minute via own goal by Nigeria’s William Troost Ekong. Calvin Bassey equalized for Nigeria in the 44 minute bringing the first half to 1 - 1 deadlock.
Despite efforts from both sides in the 2nd half, neither team could find the winner.
The three team (Nigeria, Benin and Rwanda) now battle for the playoff spot while South Africa edges closer to direct qualification.
Nigeria faces Rwanda tonight at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo at 16:00 PM GMT, in crucial clash that could determine the group’s runner up.
The Eagles enter the game under pressure after 4 draw and 1 loss in 6 match. Rwanda sitting 2nd with 8 point will aim to strengthen its position in the race for the playoff.
