Liverpool were eager to sort this new contract and it looks like they're going to. A really positive step forward.
It's been a summer of change at Liverpool. The Reds have moved players on and brought stars in as they look to reshape the squad under Arne Slot.

That's something they decided against doing in 2024. Slot won the title with what was essentially Jurgen Klopp's squad, only a couple of small changes here and there.
Now, though, Liverpool are all-in on the Dutchman. That means bringing in big names and letting go of some players who really excelled under Klopp.
That includes young players, too. Jarell Quansah, who looked like the next great centre-back at Liverpool, has been sold to Bayer Leverkusen.
Harvey Elliott may leave, too, despite being a favourite of Klopp's The playmaker simply didn't get enough minutes under Slot last season.
One of 'Klopp's kids', however, certainly remains highly-rated, though. And now he's nearing a new contract.
The Sunderland Echo reports that James McConnell is close to a new deal with Liverpool. The midfielder is viewed as a player with a long-term future at Anfield, where's he's rated very highly.
McConnell is very much a part of the plan at Liverpool, though not this season. Still, it's expected that he'll eventually claim a place in the squad.
