Newcastle United will take on Nottingham Forest in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Sunday, and it is going to be a cracking contest.
Both teams lost their previous game in the Premier League. Newcastle lost 4-0 against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, while Forest lost 2-1 against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Back in November, when the two sides met at the City Ground, Newcastle won 3-1, and they will be looking to repeat another similar performance and result.
Ahead of the match, Eddie Howe showered praise on Forest striker Chris Wood, who was enjoying a terrific campaign.
The 33-year-old Forest striker has scored 18 goals in the Premier League and registered two assists.
Howe says that Wood has been “outstanding” this season. The Magpies boss also acknowledged Wood’s contribution to the side when he was at Newcastle and added that he is very delighted to see him playing so well.
Forest are third in the league table, and Wood has played a massive part in him. Howe described him as a player with “great character”.
Howe said in the press conference: “I think he has been outstanding. Chris, when he came to us, helped us in a really difficult situation fighting relegation.
“We felt we need a focal point in that position. Somebody who could take a lot of pressure off of us as a team and give us a physical presence. I thought he did all of those things and was outstanding for the team.
“Probably under-estimated how much he affected our style and play. Then with Alex’s [Isak] return to fitness and Callum’s [Wilson] arrival he ended up moving on. Delighted for him on a personal level because he is a great character, gave everything for us.”
Forest lost two back-to-back games away from home in the league. They lost 5-0 against AFC Bournemouth and lost 2-1 against Fulham.
