Newcastle United signed Yoane Wissa for big money this summer, but injuries have not let him strut his stuff for the Geordies.
The Magpies were hoping to have him back during the November international break, but it won’t happen.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe revealed he does not know when Wissa will be ready to deliver the goods for the club.
Howe said (via the Daily Mail), “It (his comeback) is definitely not West Ham (on Sunday). He’s working very hard. He’s on the grass. He’s getting the fitness work in that he needs.
“I’d say he’s not close to training with the group at the moment, not through injury but through fitness, and making sure we build his robustness.
“I’m not trying to be evasive. I don’t know when the moment will be when he’s back with the squad.”
Still, Howe praised Wissa for being positive behind the scenes and showing the qualities of a leader.
His absence may be frustrating for Newcastle fans, but there’s still plenty of time for Wissa to make this season a success once he’s fully fit.
The Congolese forward has the quality to add a new dimension to Newcastle’s attack with his sharp movement, direct runs, and ability to link play in tight areas.
The first half of the campaign may have been frustrating, but the second half could offer a perfect platform for him to show why the club invested heavily in him.
With Nick Woltemade currently leading the line impressively, Wissa won’t face immediate pressure to carry the team on his shoulders.
Instead, he can build his rhythm gradually and become a valuable rotation option before pushing for a starting role.
If he stays fit and confident, Wissa’s energy and goal threat could give Newcastle a timely boost heading into the crucial months of the season.
