Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson holds fear that he will be ruled out for ‘a few weeks’ following his latest groin problem, a new report has detailed.

The 31-year-old sustained a fresh injury blow during the Premier League champions’ recent 5-2 comeback victory over Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium, as the club continues its pursuit of a Champions League place for next season.

Ederson got in on the act too as he provided another stellar assist from inside his own penalty area, freeing James McAtee to run through one-versus-one with Dean Henderson, rounding the Palace shot-stopper and sliding home into an empty net.

However, it appears as though the long-range pass from the Brazil international caused the Manchester City goalkeeper discomfort, suffering a reoccurrence of a long-standing groin problem that has hampered his season.

For now, Manchester City are continuing to await a full assessment of the problem to understand just how long they may be without a crucial cog in Pep Guardiola’s operation with mammoth contests on the horizon during the business end of the campaign.

According to The Times’ Paul Hirst, Ederson himself fears that he will be out of action for ‘a few weeks’ with the latest reoccurrence of a groin problem he has been carrying for ‘much of the season’.

It is claimed that while the Brazilian is hopeful he will play again this season, he is likely to miss the next few matches beginning with Saturday’s trip to Everton and possibly making him a doubt for Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest on April 27.

A prolonged absence of Ederson would open the door to increased opportunities for Stefan Ortega Moreno, who has been largely faultless when called upon at various other times of the ongoing campaign.

The German himself is keen for more of a dominant role in Manchester City’s goalkeeping set-up, but while his teammate remains at the Etihad Stadium, that is unlikely to come any time soon.

It also remains to be seen what the future holds for both goalkeepers, particularly whether Saudi Arabia come calling for Ederson – one year on from making several serious bids for the goalkeeper but ultimately falling short of Manchester City’s £50 million valuation.
