Edu's role as Nottingham Forest's global head of football is under scrutiny after a chaotic campaign, with speculation over a return to Brazil gathering pace.
ESPN Brazil reports that Flamengo are considering him for football director as they weigh a backroom reshuffle, with president Luiz Eduardo Baptista said to be in favour. The report says tentative contact has been made via people linked to agent Kia Joorabchian, and that, if he is receptive, they would examine the terms for a rapid hire.
Questions around Edu's future surfaced in January and have lingered as Forest continue to fight for survival under their fourth head coach of the season. Pressure on the 47-year-old has increased with little upturn in results.
He is understood not to have attended the Reds' last three fixtures, against Fenerbahce, Brighton and Hove Albion and Manchester City. Appointed last July, his brief spans Evangelos Marinakis' multi-club network, including Olympiacos and Rio Ave.
His arrival was followed by a fall-out with Nuno Espirito Santo that led to the Portuguese's dismissal in September. Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche have since taken charge, with Vitor Pereira now tasked with steering the club clear of trouble.
With nine games left, Forest sit outside the bottom three on goal difference. They are level on points with 18th-placed West Ham United, now managed by Nuno after his City Ground exit.
