Edu Gaspar faces an increasingly uncertain future at Nottingham Forest, with his influence at the club appearing to diminish during a turbulent campaign.
Appointed as global head of football after departing Arsenal, Edu oversaw a significant summer recruitment drive worth approximately £180m. However, many of those arrivals have struggled to establish themselves in the starting XI, raising questions about the effectiveness of the club’s transfer strategy.
While Forest maintain that Edu continues to operate in his role, his recent absence from matchday proceedings has only intensified speculation surrounding his long-term position. In contrast, director of football George Syrianos is understood by Sky Sports to be taking a leading role in shaping plans for next season.
The uncertainty off the pitch mirrors Forest’s precarious situation on it. The club hover just above the relegation zone in the Premier League, with only goal difference separating them from danger ahead of a crucial fixture against Tottenham Hotspur.
Complicating matters further, owner Evangelos Marinakis has temporarily relinquished control by placing his shares into a blind trust to comply with UEFA regulations, leaving Forest navigating a critical juncture both on and off the field.
