Manchester United could be stunned by noisy neighbours Manchester City yet again if reports from Spain are to be believed.
With Casemiro departing, the Red Devils have been scrambling to sign the Brazilian‘s successor. While a deal for Ederson has been agreed on the former Real Madrid superstar’s recommendation, he is seen more as a market opportunity rather than as the team’s starting defensive midfielder.
INEOS had identified Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson as their primary target, but they were eventually outbid by City.
Since then, Tottenham Hotspur have stolen two other midfield targets, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
Premier League-proven options like Alex Scott and Tyler Adams are on United’s radar, but INEOS have been forced to cast their net wide in case Bournemouth refuse to entertain the idea of a sale.
Real Madrid duo Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have emerged as options, but United could be set for further disappointment regarding the duo.
The 26-year-old World Cup star’s wages will prove a hard mountain to climb, while City have now been offered the chance to sign the 23-year-old.
MARCA have reported that Jose Mourinho has greenlit the sale of the France international after expressing doubts about the versatile player’s suitability.
“Eduardo Camavinga could be one of Real Madrid’s departures this transfer window. In recent hours, there have been direct contacts between Real Madrid and Manchester City regarding the French midfielder, a move that has the approval of José Mourinho, who has not been entirely convinced by Camavinga’s performances in recent seasons as a Madrid player.
“The English club has received an offer from Real Madrid and is considering the possible signing of Camavinga, a player highly regarded in the Premier League for his stamina and physical prowess.
“In this context, Camavinga’s potential departure would be seen by Real Madrid as a good market opportunity, as Manchester City continues to look for midfielders and Premier League clubs are willing to pay well.”
Having spent a record sum to sign Anderson, it will be interesting to see if the Cityzens can afford to spend big on the former Stade Rennais ace.
Injuries have proven to be a constant thorn in the Frenchman’s side, with the Real Madrid No. 6 starting only 23 times last season.
United could plot a late hijack attempt for Eduardo Camavinga, who can also play as a left-back, a position Michael Carrick is keen to strengthen. Two birds with one stone will suit INEOS given their financial situation. Or they could keep holding out for Tchouameni to change his mind. Fans are eager to see which direction INEOS take.
