The EFL has been contacted by one or more clubs over a potential conflict of interest involving Blackburn and Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill.
According to the BBC, Oxford United are among those uneasy about the arrangement, with four of their players in the squad for Tuesday’s friendly against Wales.
O’Neill, already Northern Ireland boss, took charge of Rovers earlier this season on a dual basis until the campaign ends. Concerns have centred on the number of players from Blackburn’s relegation rivals in his international squad, with Albion’s Isaac Price among them.
Portsmouth also have a player involved. Albion, Portsmouth, Blackburn and Oxford are all fighting for Championship survival.
It is not a matter for the league. The international call-up and release policy is governed by FIFA and the national team, and squad selection is taken independently by managers. Selections are expected to be made with integrity and not bring the game into disrepute.
