Adrar Stadium in Agadir was packed for Egypt’s 1-0 win over South Africa, a contrast to most fixtures at the tournament in Morocco. Security staff opened the gates to non-ticket holders, and entry became free.
The stands were roughly 30% full shortly before kick-off, then began to fill rapidly. According to L'Équipe, access was relaxed in the 20th minute, as in Egypt’s previous match here against Zimbabwe, a 2-1 win.
Families, women, men and children, some still wearing schoolbags, rushed to the entrances. After body searches by security staff described as numerous and organised by several spectators, they were allowed into the stands without paying.
Spectator Moha Soussi, who paid 100 dirhams, about €9.30, described a friendly atmosphere with chants, waves, Egyptians and South Africans, and many from Agadir’s working classes. He contrasted it with Morocco’s 2-0 win over Comoros, which he felt attracted more affluent fans and influencers.
Some supporters even climbed onto the stadium roof to watch. Opening the stands to those without tickets led to some incidents, with amateur videos showing people running, climbing and forcing certain entrances, though spectators interviewed reported no misbehaviour.
