Egypt were held to a goalless draw by Angola in their last group game at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations at Stade Adrar on Monday afternoon.
Egypt made 11 changes to the side that started the 1-0 victory over South Africa last Friday, having secured their place in the round of 16.
Mohamed Salah was left out of the starting XI for the first time at the Africa Cup of Nations, ending his run of 21 consecutive AFCON starts.
The Pharaohs dominated possession in the first half, but it was Angola that looked more threatening in attack.
Egypt’s only goalscoring opportunities came from two consecutive corner-kicks, none of which troubled goalkeeper Hugo Marques.
Angola’s Mabululu fluffed a good chance to break the deadlock, firing a tame effort straight into the arms of goalkeeper Oufa Shobeir.
Chico Banza then lashed a shot wide before Shobeir saved Fredy’s long-range strike.
Egypt coach Hossam Hassan made three changes at halftime, but Angola continued to control the game’s momentum.
Shobeir made a good stop to prevent Fredy’s strike from breaching his goal before the Angolan forward struck the woodwork from a free-kick.
Substitute Zizo registered Egypt’s first shot on target, forcing Marques to make a good save from his fierce strike.
Both sides pushed for a late winning goal but could not get the breakthrough, ensuring spoils were shared.
Egypt finished top of Group B with seven points, while South Africa, who defeated Zimbabwe 3–2, finished second.
