Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has issued a clear transfer demand, with eight players facing the axe ahead of the summer.
United are bracing for another busy window as they look increasingly likely to finish within the top four places and secure a sensational return to the Champions League.
At present, United lie in third place in the Premier League table, one point above Chelsea and six adrift of cross-town rivals Manchester City. The Red Devils have appeared transformed since Michael Carrick took over as boss and his impact has made a strong case for him to land the job permanently.
The additional revenue from a Champions League return would give United’s budget a major boost, raising the quality of players they can realistically target.
Midfield is believed to be United’s top priority, with the likes of Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali the leading names on the club’s wishlist.
United have also been tipped to swoop for a full-back and a left-sided attacker.
According to The Sun, Ratcliffe is determined to raise up to £100m from the sales of United players who have been deemed surplus to requirements.
The newspaper claims that Ratcliffe is prepared to offload up to eight senior players to hit his £100m target.
The report adds, “Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford are poised to be sold.”
“Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia will also depart as free agents, freeing up cash to reinvest in the squad.”
It’s understood that United are expecting around £64m from parting ways with Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford. Hojlund and Rashford are likely to remain at Napoli and Barcelona respectively on a permanent basis after enjoying positive loan spells.
To avoid registering Onana’s sale as a loss under Profit and Sustainability rules, United need to bring in at least £19m.
United return to action on 13 April when they welcome Leeds Unitd to Old Trafford.
