According to the BBC, Eirik Horneland has emerged as favourite to take charge of Aberdeen, five days after leaving Saint-Étienne.
Aberdeen are seventh in the Scottish Premiership and were eliminated in the Conference League group stage.
The Norwegian departed Saint-Étienne on Sunday following a 0-1 defeat to Boulogne-sur-Mer on Saturday night and the appointment of Philippe Montanier.
He could succeed interim Peter Leven, who led the first team in January after the dismissal of Jimmy Thelin, who arrived in June 2024.
If appointed, Horneland would need to haul Aberdeen into the play-off places and back into the title and European race. Sixth, the final qualifying spot and currently held by Falkirk, is 8 points away.
