El Valencia CF have started the week concentrating on Unai Núñez’s condition, with Elche CF looming.

The Basque defender was taken off with discomfort in the meeting with Celta de Vigo, and Thierry Rendall finished the game in his place.

According to Superdeporte, the centre-back trained away from the group on Monday and worked in the gym under a tailored plan to gauge his recovery.

Since the coach’s arrival, he has been used as a key option, even at right back amid injuries, mirroring last season’s idea of giving the lane to Luis Rioja and lifting José Luis Gayà’s average position on the opposite flank.

His contribution in defence and in bringing the ball out has been important for a team that has struggled in that role this season.

With Elche CF due next weekend, the staff hope to have the defender available. His progress over the coming days will determine whether he can make the game in good condition.
