Elche’s player ratings centre on Matías Dituro’s saves despite early lapses, and an unusual retaken penalty for André Silva, in a match where Athletic scored for 1-0 then later from the spot for 2-1.

As reported by as.com, Dituro twice erred playing out, first in the sixth minute when Oihan Sancet shot wide, then in the 28th minute when he passed to Gorka Guruzeta but redeemed himself with a stop. His best work denied Iñaki Williams, and he also kept out Rego.

Calmer after the break, he produced a superb one-on-one save from Sancet. He was powerless for the 1-0 and could not keep out the penalty for 2-1.

Petrot was steady and even outpaced Iñaki Williams, though he should have closed Yuri tighter before the 1-0 cross. Bigas stayed composed, yet Guruzeta finished between him and Chust, then a VAR review penalised Bigas for a kick on Aymeric Laporte.

Tete Morente toiled at wing-back with little attacking impact. Chust, on the left of a back three, struggled in the first-half build-up as Athletic pressed, a collective issue also felt by Aguado, while Febas worked under an early booking. Cepeda’s free-kick supplied Elche’s first shot on target.

Álvaro Rodríguez pressed but wasted a promising break and was withdrawn. Germán Valera was bright and won a clear penalty from Lekue. André Silva had to retake his kick after a double touch, a recent rule change after the Julián Álvarez incident working in his favour.

Affengruber looked sharp off the bench. Sangaré made his first minutes, replacing Tete, and brought energy. Rafa Mir had no chance to score, and Pedrosa was the fourth change.
