As Liverpool gear up to defend their Premier League title under Arne Slot, the club are making clear statements in the transfer market. One such statement is the imminent £45 million signing of Milos Kerkez. At just 21 years old, the Hungarian left-back already has Premier League experience and is reportedly prioritising the move over international duties.
Kerkez is not just a left-back, he is a dynamic presence who brings balance, attacking intent and defensive security. For a Liverpool side that often leaned too heavily on the right flank last season, his arrival could be transformative. His signing shows that Liverpool are really pushing to move even further clear of the chasing pack in the Premier League.

Last season, Liverpool were heavily reliant on Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah down the right, leaving the left side vulnerable. Andy Robertson, while still a useful full-back, often found himself exposed . With Kostas Tsimikas offering inconsistent support, the issue became increasingly apparent.
Kerkez offers a solution. Known for his relentless overlapping runs, high work rate and positional intelligence, he can stretch play and press with the energy of a winger. This could allow players like Luis Díaz or Cody Gakpo to cut inside freely, knowing Kerkez will provide width. When teams sit deep, having both flanks as attacking threats is crucial.
Kerkez’s arrival does not spell the end for Andy Robertson. The Scottish international remains a valuable leader and will still play a key role, especially in a season packed with domestic and European fixtures. His experience will be vital, both on the pitch and as a mentor for the younger Kerkez. Much like James Milner once supported Robertson’s development, Robertson can now guide the next generation.

Kostas Tsimikas looks set to be the main departure following Kerkez’s arrival. With reported interest from Leeds United and Olympiacos, a £15 million fee is expected. In return, Liverpool effectively secure a major upgrade at left-back for a net spend of £30 million, a shrewd move in today’s market.
This isn’t just opportunism, it’s deliberate and well-planned squad building. Slot’s system demands versatile, intelligent full-backs, and Kerkez fits that mould perfectly.
