Celtic FC Women are preparing for their SWPL match tomorrow night (Wednesday, April 30) against Hearts at New Douglas Park (kick-off 8pm).

With the season nearing its conclusion, the focus for Elena Sadiku’s side is firmly on picking up a vital three points against the Edinburgh side tomorrow evening.

Speaking to the media today ahead of tomorrow’s match, Celtic FC Women’s manager, Elena Sadiku said that her side have reviewed and learned from their defeat against Hearts last month as she reiterated the importance of finishing the campaign off in a positive way.

“I showed the players some clips from the last time we played against Hearts,” she said, “and we’ve changed since the last time we played against them.

“I’m really happy with the response the players have had.

‘The biggest focus has been on ourselves because the last few training sessions have been the best training I’ve seen so far.’

“It’s been a long and hard season, especially the last seven weeks which have been really tough.

It’s an experience that I’ve learned a lot from and the players have learned a lot from, but the last three training sessions have been the best that I’ve seen for a long time.

“We have five games left, 15 points to fight for and we are Celtic, so we need to make sure that we finish in the highest possible position.”

It has been a positive week so far for one of the Celtic first-team players, as it was announced yesterday that Emma Lawton has been nominated for PFA Scotland’s SWPL Player of the Year award.

Lawton, who joined the club from Partick Thistle in the summer, has been an impressive addition to Elena Sadiku’s squad, with her performances both domestically and in Europe drawing recognition from fans and colleagues alike.

And Elena Sadiku was full of praise for the young defender as she outlined exactly what makes her a model professional.

She added: “If there’s a player you want to be successful then it’s Emma Lawton. She’s humble and she works hard in every training session.

“She is one of the players who you need to slow down because she’s always asking for feedback after games or she wants to know what she needs to do better.

“She has big professionalism and she wants to be the best that she can be. Those are the kind of players you love coaching.”
