Elland Road’s redevelopment has stepped up, with demolition under way as Leeds United begin the West Stand phase. The West and North projects will lift capacity to 53,000.

According to Leeds Live, main construction began hours after the final home match. West Stand spectators were asked to leave by 7pm after the 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

The large West Stand floodlights have been removed. Demolition has followed, taking down the south-west security hub and the away changing rooms.

A marquee is being erected behind the North Stand, with diggers clearing adjacent land.

The 2026 summer transfer window will run from June 15 to September 1, closing at 11pm. The winter window will be January 1 to February 1, also with an 11pm deadline.

The summer market opens four days after the World Cup begins and shuts six weeks after the final. Daniel Farke expects most business to bunch late.

The Old Peacock, opposite the South Stand, has applied to add a new bar. The plan includes a mezzanine with stairs, and Greene King Retailing Limited also wishes to install toilets.

Opened in 1826 as The Peacock Inn, the pub is synonymous with Leeds United. When the sports ground was built by Bentley’s Brewery in 1878, the complex was named the Old Peacock Ground.

Since the club moved in in 1904, and later morphed from Leeds City into Leeds United in 1919, it has been the matchday local.
