Unai Emery reveals that Tyrone Mings and Pau Torres could both be back for Aston Villa’s match against Crystal Palace this week.

Mings has missed the last 10 Premier League matches with a thigh injury and Torres has been out for the last five with a calf problem before the Palace match.

Evann Guessand is away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Amadou Onana has been out with a hamstring injury and Ross Barkley has been suffering with a knee problem. Emery gave injury updates on his squad.

“We’re training now, after the press conference,” he said. “We’ll see how they are doing, the players, after the match we played on Saturday.

“Tyrone and Pau are close but we are going to train now, I don’t know if for tomorrow they’ll be available or not.

“And other players – no Barkley, no Guessand, no Amadou [Onana], but we have enough players; after training we’re going to decide if someone is close, like Pau and Tyrone Mings.”

Despite the number of players missing for Villa, Emery still believes his side can dominate against Oliver Glasner’s men.

“We are going to play with the players we have, competing and adapting to them, because this is a team that normally you need to adapt to,” he said.

“Their structure tactically is strong, and they have good players, good positioning – it’s different. We must adapt to them and compete, firstly, thinking about how we can stop them and how we can dominate and to adapt our structure and shape, imposing.

“Individually, the duels tomorrow will be very, very important.”
