Arsenal star Emily Fox has spoken about her favourite moment of the team’s UEFA Women’s Champions League victory in May.
Asked to pick her highlight of the day, the USA international told the club’s official website: “Aside from Stina’s goal? Just all of it. I think when you get to that point, there’s never just one moment, because it’s such a long season and the Champions League is such a rollercoaster.
“It’s the whole journey that makes it special and the day itself is a montage in my brain.”
And Fox – who joined Arsenal in January 2024 – said that winning that trophy in Lisbon is pushing the team to seek more silverware this coming season.
“Going into the season, we know how vital every single game and every single point is. We saw that in the Champions League, of course, but also in the WSL last season. Having one-game weeks in September has been really beneficial for us in order to lay the foundation for the rest of the season, giving us plenty of time to learn from each game.
“We’re all excited for when the Champions League starts up again, but we remain humble. Winning last year hasn’t changed that mindset one bit. We know that any team on their day is dangerous, and especially with the new format this season, it’s not going to be easy.
“But we’ll be up for the challenge. We’re just focusing on one game at a time.”
Fox was on the shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, and said that she enjoyed being at the ceremony with her team-mates and head coach Renee Slegers – picking up Women’s Club of the Year.
“With the Ballon d’Or itself, you could see that we’re still trying to keep growing the women’s game,” she said, “even with it being the first year there was a goalkeeping award. We’re not satisfied with the way things currently are.
“I loved listening to those speeches, with people taking the opportunity on that platform to tell everyone that there’s more to do. I don’t think we’re doing enough currently in terms of inclusivity and making sure we’re keeping women’s football a safe and welcoming environment. So lots of positives and lots of work to do.
“We were all saying how much we loved that the Club of the Year trophy just says ‘Arsenal’ on it. It’s the club, it’s the community, it’s the fans, players, staff. Arsenal is a whole collective – not just our team.”
