Milan Primavera’s bad run in the league continued as they were beaten 1-0 away from home by relegation battlers Empoli on Friday afternoon.

The Primavera suffered another big blow in their play-off hopes last weekas they fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat away against Cesena on Saturday.

Then, they fell at the final hurdle in their Coppa Italia journey as they were beaten 3-0 by Cagliari in the final at the Arena Civica Gianni Brera on Wednesday afternoon.

There was the need for a response, but it didn’t come. Milan should have scored twice in the opening few minutes through Liberali and Scotti, controlling the game from there without really threatening.

With four minutes to go in the first half, the home team found the goal that would prove to be decisive. On a corner from the right, Popov headed firstly against the post and then against Paloschi’s body and the ball went in.

In the second half, the Rossoneri appeared confused and laboured in their attempts to generate pressure, and it was in fact the hosts who came closer to doubling their lead. It is a third defeat in the last four games for Milan, while Empoli got three very important points in the survival bid.
