Nothing like a return to form on the pitch. After being sidelined by Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, Endrick has been lighting up France in a Lyon shirt, breaking records along the way. This Sunday, the Brazilian became the youngest foreign player ever to score a hat-trick in Ligue 1 history.
It was the first hat-trick of Endrick’s professional career, helping Lyon to a 5-2 thrashing of Metz, who sit at the bottom of the table. Tyler Morton also scored in the game, as Lyon’s attacking firepower proved too much for their struggling opponents. In just three games in France, the Brazilian prodigy has already racked up four goals and one assist.
At 19 years and six months, Endrick broke the record previously held by Divock Origi, who was 19 years and 10 months when he netted a Ligue 1 hat-trick back in 2015. Before Origi, the record belonged to Emmanuel Adebayor, who was 19 years and 11 months old when he scored his hat-trick in 2004.
Including French players, he’s fourth on the list, just behind Jérémy Menez (17 years, 8 months), Kylian Mbappé (18 years, 1 month) and Ousmane Dembélé (18 years, 9 months).
Endrick also became the youngest player to score a hat-trick for Lyon in this century, surpassing a club legend. Karim Benzema scored his first hat-trick for the club in 2007 at 19 years and eight months… also against Metz. Benzema went on to finish that season with 31 goals, 20 in Ligue 1, ending as both top scorer and champion - a fitting inspiration for the young Brazilian striker.
