Sarina Wiegman provided an injury update on Leah Williamson after the England captain appeared to pick up a knock during their Euro 2025 quarter-final win over Sweden.
England reached the semi-final in dramatic circumstances after they appeared to be heading out of the tournament.
The Lionesses were 2-0 down after 78 minutes, before goals from Lucy Bronze and Michelle Agyemang sent the game to extra-time and penalties.
Sweden were twice at matchpoint during the shootout, but they failed to take their chances and the Lioneses progressed.
Fans flooded onto social media to react to the chaotic shootout win for England, as they scraped through to the semi-final where they will play Italy on July 22nd.
However, there is some concern over whether England centre-back Williamson will be fit for the semi-final.
England captain Leah Williamson limped off in extra time of England’s Euro 2025 quarter-final against Sweden.
Williamson appeared to land awkwardly after clearing a corner and stayed on the ground.
She eventually got back to her feet and tried to play on, but was replaced at half-time of extra time by Niamh Charles.
It was revealed after the game that Williamson had rolled her ankle during the melee following the corner.
In an injury update on Leah Williamson, Sarina Wiegman said the England captain was replaced as she didn’t feel ‘100 per cent’.
During her post-match press conference, Wiegman said: “She rolled her ankle. She’ll be assessed tomorrow (Friday).
“I don’t know what it is right now. She couldn’t stay on the pitch so we had to take her off.”
Williamson also spoke to the media following the game, but wasn’t sure how serious the injury was.
She said: “It wasn’t about me [tonight] and a game like that requires you to be at 100 per cent. It wasn’t the time to stay on the pitch, but I don’t know.”
Lauren James and Lucy Bronze were also seen limping after the game, but Wiegman suggested this was just due to fatigue.
England will face Italy in the semi-final of Euro 2025 on Tuesday, July 22nd.
According to the UK’s top betting sites, the Lionesses are 2/5 favourites to beat Italy in regular time.
The Italians are priced at 9/2 to win in regular time while a draw is priced at 11/4.
