From the bench, John Stones rated seven with a vital late block. Dan Burn was immense aerially for an eight, Djed Spence a wholehearted seven, and Morgan Rogers a hard-running six.

England weathered a ceaseless aerial assault in the closing stages, with Stones and Burn repelling crosses. Pickford will pick up his 90th cap in the quarter-final against Norway.
