With nine incoming players, and eight departing, we can expect to see sweeping changes to Thomas Tuchel's XI on Tuesday from the experimental side that encountered a brutal Uruguay.

From those who started Friday's clash at Wembley only Tino Livramento and James Garner are in contention to feature again. Several of the substitutes - namely Ben White, Kobbie Mainoo, Cole Palmer and Jarrod Bowen - are also in the frame.

Elsewhere, it will be a much more familiar set-up, with Harry Kane looking to increase his record-breaking international haul. The Bayern ace has scored 10 goals in his last 10 appearances for England. He is 10/11 to convert again.

We can expect some push-back from Japan, as the Samurai Blue have been in terrific form of late. Hajime Moriyasu's men have lost only once in their last 11 matches, winning their last three to nil.

Prior to that, they mounted a remarkable comeback against Brazil to triumph 3-2.

Friday against Uruguay was an evening to endure. This one should be more entertaining.

Flash Gordon - Back Newcastle forward to star for England

Two goals and no assists in 16 international showings is hardly an impactful return for Anthony Gordon, even when it's factored in that five of those appearances were off the bench.

For Newcastle, a recent switch to centre-forward has harvested numerous goal involvements, one every 93 minutes in fact since mid-February. Gordon has scored or assisted 28.5% of Newcastle's goals in 2026.

If this makes him a handy back-up option for Kane this summer it has also likely honed his end-product. Japan give up chances on their travels - much less so at home - and Gordon has developed a clinical edge to take full advantage.

A pertinent stat relating to the in-form Magpie is that 10 of England's last 18 goals have come via set-pieces (five corners, three free-kicks and two pens).

Villan desperate to impress

Morgan Rogers is guaranteed a seat on the plane this summer. With so much elite talent vying for the number 10 role, however, he's still got his work cut out to secure a starting berth.

An instrumental display here will aid his cause no end and when the 23-year-old is on it he tends to let fly often.

This has certainly been the case recently for Aston Villa, the attacking midfielder improving on an already lofty shot-ratio for 2025/26. An attempt every 27 minutes across his last six league outings has upped his average to 2.94 per 90. Only two top-flight players have registered more this campaign.

It's when they are occurring, though, that intrigues us, allied with his impressive accuracy.

Rogers has registered a first half shot on target in seven of his last 10 starts.

Foul shout for returning Kamada

The visitors are also expected to change things up from their first friendly - a 1-0 victory in Scotland on Saturday - with attackers Kaoru Mitoma, Ritsu Doan and Ayase Ueda all tipped to stress-test an England rearguard that hasn't conceded from open play for 10-and-a-half hours.Daichi Kamada, meanwhile, is anticipated to return to the heart of Japan's midfield, tasked with bombing forward and assisting his front three at every opportunity.

The Crystal Palace man is particularly of interest due to a spike in fouls committed since recovering from a two-month lay-off at the turn of the year.

The occasionally brilliant 29-year-old has committed multiple fouls in four of his last six starts for the Eagles.

It may seem counter-intuitive to suggest goals will be scored at both ends considering that England and Japan are shut-out kings. The Three Lions have kept 13 clean sheets in their 17 games post-Euro 2024 and the Samarai Blue have done likewise in 68% of their fixtures across the last two years.

A fairly open game with a decent number of chances is fancied here though, as both teams favour adventurous approaches. The visitors have carved out three chances apiece across their last three outings. England have created 3.5 per 90 in their last 10.

Don't be surprised to see Ayase Ueda involved in the goalmouth action, the Feyenoord striker racking up eight shots on target in his last five Eredivisie appearances. He successfully converted half of them.

Lastly, it should be noted that Japan have a habit for scoring late, with eight of their last 10 notched in the second period. Seven have come beyond the hour-mark.
