Enzo Maresca has just dropped his team sheet for tonight’s game against Manchester United, and there are some interesting calls from the Chelsea boss.

Firstly, we’ve begged him to stick with one central defender combination for so many months now. But he’s addicted to changing it. It looked like he had finally settled on Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah, but his itchy trigger finger has struck again, and Chalobah is benched for Tosin Adarabioyo.
We wonder if there’s an injury reason. If not, we can’t see the logic at all. He’s had all season to decide on a pair, yet still keeps changing it up, which helps nobody.
There are other interesting calls too – with Nicolas Jackson suspended, we need a winger as a “false 9” for the evening. When Jackson was out injured earlier in the year, Maresca used both Tyrique George and Pedro Neto in that role, with both showing some aptitude. But it was usually Neto in the league and George in the Conference League. Which will he opt for in tonight’s game? Neto is the senior man – but does that mean he gets to keep his preferred position on the wing, or does that mean he’s the one who has to step up and play leading the line?
We can’t wait to find out.
Then there’s the decision to drop Romeo Lavia and put Reece James at right back, with Moises Caicedo in midfield. Lavia has been great since returning, and while we understand Maresca wants Caicedo in the middle, losing Lavia to make that happen is certainly a risk. Still, there’s plenty of time for the Belgian to make an impact against a super strong United team.
