Enzo Maresca has just taken his press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game against Leeds, and as you’d expect the mood was not as happy as it was a week ago.

A dreadful showing in Yorkshire undid all the hard work against Arsenal last week, and the press wanted to know what the manager was going to do to improve his team’s inconsistencies.

Maresca was asked whether he was going to “ask some questions” of his player – and while he agreed, he actually then just reeled off a list of excuses for their performance:

“Yeah, I just said I didn’t see the players yesterday, but I wish to come back [and speak to them] for sure. We did many things, but probably we also paid the bill to play one hour with ten players against Arsenal,” the manager said.

“We also probably paid the bill in terms of Leeds away, probably in some way can be more complicated than the previous game. And as I said, we watch the game, and there are things that for sure we need to avoid in the future.”

The Chelsea boss had said that not only had he not shouted at the players, he actually hadn’t even seen them since Wednesday night as they’d had recovery days. That doesn’t sound too promising if we want a full shake up for tomorrow’s game.

In other news…

Gary Neville was working as co-commentator in Tuesday’s Chelsea defeat to Leeds, and he pointed out some of the things he’d seen early which he had hated from the Blues.

One Chelsea player who really disappointed in the game on Tuesday was Enzo Fernandez – he simply has to do better in games like this where we need him to step up and deliver.
