Eric Garcia and Martin Zubimendi made their World Cup debuts in the final as Spain beat Argentina 1-0 after extra time on Sunday.

Luis De la Fuente introduced the Barcelona defender, 25, and the Arsenal midfielder, 27, in the 99th minute. Garcia has 22 caps, Zubimendi 27. As reported by L'Équipe.

They featured for 21 minutes. The last time anyone debuted at a World Cup final came in 2010.

That year, Edson Braafheid, capped 10 times, entered in the 105th minute for the Netherlands, replacing captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst in his final match.

He could not prevent defeat, Andrés Iniesta scoring in the 116th minute to deliver Spain’s first world title.
