Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler has made it clear that his sights are firmly set on lifting the Nedbank Cup trophy this season.

Babina Noko will visit Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit University of Pretoria in a Round of 16 clash at the Tuks Stadium on Sunday.

With his last cup success dating back to the 2017/18 campaign in the form of the MTN8 with the now-defunct SuperSport United, Tinkler is eager to end the drought.

“If you go look at my CV and you'll see I've played in many finals and I won quite a few finals. At those clubs as well I've wanted to achieve things in the league and I've managed to finish second, third, fourth - I've been there. I just haven't managed to win the league title as yet,” he said.

"But it's been a while now since I won a cup, so I'd like to get back to win that cup. And then talking on behalf of the club, also the club has never won a cup. Cape Town City's first season we won the Telkom Knockout.

"So, I would like to achieve that here at the club where we can win ourselves a cup, but still ensure that we finish obviously in the top three.

The former Cape Town City mentor is banking on the experience of seasoned campaigners in his squad, as they look to secure a top three finish and a domestic cup title.

“I think, yes, we have a very competitive squad in my opinion and we've assembled some of our older players, more experienced players. They are some of my older players, more experienced players - the likes of [Thabang] Monare, he's won leagues, he knows what it takes,” Tinkler added.

"The younger players rubbing shoulders with the likes of him is very important. All the senior players working with the younger players so that they understand the importance of the Nedbank Cup, they understand the importance of trying to finish in the top three.
