Ever since Erling Haaland arrived at Manchester City, he has set about obliterating almost every goal-scoring record in the English game. Haaland’s feats have, at times, defied any sense of logic. Another Premier League record fell yesterday as City’s top-scorer became the fastest player to 100 goal involvements in Premier League history. It is yet another remarkable feat from Haaland and sees him break yet another record.
The moment arrived yesterday in the 11th minute of Manchester City’s 2-all draw with Brighton at the Etihad. Erling Haaland emphatically dispatched a penalty to score his 84th Premier League goal. The Norwegian international also has contributed 16 assists in the Premier League since arriving at Manchester City. Haaland reached the 100-goal involvement mark in his 94th Premier League game yesterday. He beat Alan Shearer’s record, who reached the 100-goal involvement mark in 100 Premier League matches.
Erling Haaland has scored 29 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions this season. Those are superb statistics, although Haaland’s goal-scoring isn’t measured by the usual standards. That speaks volumes about Erling Haaland’s goal-scoring prowess, and the record he broke yesterday is further evidence of this. But when you watch Manchester City play at the moment you do feel that they aren’t getting the most out of their star striker. That’s a symptom of how Pep Guardiola’s side has performed for the majority of this season. Based on Haaland’s goal-scoring record this season, when Manchester City improve, he will be scoring goals at an even higher rate. That’s a scary prospect for Manchester City’s rivals.
Yesterday we saw Haaland score early but then drift out of the game. He lacked service, especially in the second half of yesterday’s match. That’s been a common occurrence at times this season. You do sense that Haaland will benefit from Manchester City adding more creativity to their midfield. But that’s a scenario that will only come to fruition in the summer. For now, Erling Haaland will continue to toil away up front for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Yesterday saw Erling Haaland claim yet another Premier League record. That’s been a common theme ever since he arrived at the club. The scary part for Manchester City’s rivals is if City improve their squad in the summer and with Haaland signed on at Manchester City for another 9 years, a host of other records may tumble along the way. That’s an exciting prospect to ponder for everyone associated with Manchester City.
