Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has shattered yet another Premier League record, this time surpassing one Manchester United legend.
The Norwegian continues to redefine what is possible in English football since arriving at City in 2022, having already lifted multiple trophies at the Etihad Stadium, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League, while setting scoring records at an astonishing rate.
His latest achievement adds further weight to the argument that he is among the most prolific strikers in Premier League history, despite having played far fewer matches than some of the names he has already overtaken.
Saturday’s 5–1 thrashing of Burnley was not just a vital victory in City’s push back up the table, but also another landmark in Erling Haaland’s already glittering top-level professional playing career.
Guardiola’s men responded emphatically after a shaky August run, with Haaland once again the figurehead of their resurgence, and his double at the Etihad on Saturday put the finishing touches on a dominant showing, which also saw Matheus Nunes and Oscar Bobb star.
In the same game, Haaland became City’s ninth highest goalscorer with 133 goals in 152 appearances and also moved up to second in the list of most Premier League goals scored at the Etihad Stadium.
Most prominently however, it was confirmed that Erling Haaland became the outright leading Norwegian goalscorer in Premier League history by surpassing former Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Haaland has now recorded a remarkable 93 goals in 103 matches in the English top-flight, with the aforementioned Old Trafford star putting up 91 goals in 235 matches for the Red Devils during his playing career.
For City supporters, the sight of Haaland obliterating long-standing records has become almost routine. Yet his feat against Burnley carries extra significance, given the historic rivalry between United and City. To overtake Solskjaer cements Haaland’s place as Norway’s undisputed Premier League great.
Looking ahead, the forward shows no signs of slowing down and his long-term contract running until 2034 ensures Pep Guardiola and sporting director Hugo Viana have him tied down through what should be the peak of his career.
With Real Madrid and Barcelona both long-linked to the striker – and the latter’s president Joan Laporta even recently described as “optimistic” of landing him in future – City’s ability to keep Haaland at the Etihad Stadium remains one of their greatest strategic triumphs.
If he continues scoring at his current pace, Erling Haaland could not only smash further Premier League records but also challenge Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring mark, once considered untouchable.
