Alejandro Garnacho has only made two starts for Chelsea signing signing in the summer. The one last night was a much more significant one than the one a week before against Lincoln in the EFL Cup.
Speaking after full time, the winger gave his thoughts to Sky Sports about how he thought things went against Benfica and in recent games:
“I think we also had a little bit, not bad luck, but with the red cards the games changed. It depends on the game, sometimes it can be unlucky, sometimes a bad tackle.
“But we said the same every game, we have to try to play with 11 players because today in football the games change a lot with one less player, but I think it’s an important win.
“We also have Liverpool on Saturday at home and we will try to win, too. We know they are a hard team, but we have to do our best to beat them.”
In this event the red didn’t come until the final seconds, so the team weren’t in too much danger. But still, it was a scrappy second half showing and they’ll need to do better.

We’re really interested to see what team Maresca picks for Saturday’s game. There’s not long to recover, but he also has few options to choose from.
While Garnacho probably improved his chances of starting somewhat, he will be helped even more by the damage that Jamie Gittens did to his own chances.
Most fans would now pick Estevao and Pedro Neto as our wide players to face Liverpool – but if Maresca wants experience he could yet go for Garnacho from the start, with Estevao to appear early in the second half as last night.
