Everton 1-1 Leeds: Red-hot Thierno Barry rescues point for Toffees | OneFootball

Everton came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the Premier League at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday evening.

The visitors created the game’s first chance when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was slipped through, but Jordan Pickford quickly came off his line to smother his effort.

Leeds broke the deadlock before the half-hour mark, as the ball fell nicely to James Justin to finish from close range, following a brilliant team move.

Calvert-Lewin squandered an opportunity to compound the woes of his former employers, running onto Jayden Bogle’s cross, only to strike the woodwork.

Everton’s first genuine attempt came on the stroke of half-time, with Iliman Ndiaye releasing James Garner in the area, but the English midfielder dragged his effort wide.

Everton made two changes at the start of the second half, replacing Dwight McNeil and Harrison Armstrong with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jarrad Branthwaite.

Ndiaye looked set to put the hosts level after receiving a pass from Idrissa Gueye, only for Sebastian Bornauw to produce a vital block to avert the danger.

Karl Darlow in the Leeds goal was finally called to action, parrying Thierno Barry’s shot away superbly, before easily gathering Gueye’s effort from range.

Darlow could not prevent Barry from restoring parity in the 75th minute, as the French striker thumped the ball home, netting his fourth goal in five league games.

Two minutes later, Gueye struck the woodwork from outside the area, as the hosts pushed for the winning goal.

Down the other end, substitutes Noah Okafor and Sean Longstaff combined from a counter-attack, but the latter blazed wide.

With the result, Everton are now one point outside a European qualification spot, while Leeds are six points clear of the relegation zone.
