Everton have long been admirers of Newcastle United’s William Osula (h/t the i Paper).
Osula has the best goals per minute ratio in the Premier League at a goal every 106 minutes this season.
Everton signed Thierno Barry last summer, but he has failed to live up to expectations.
Beto has also been equally disappointing for the Merseyside outfit, and he could exit the club this summer.
Everton manager David Moyes could use another striker in the ranks, and Osula fits the bill.
However, Everton are not alone in the race, with Aston Villa and several Bundesliga clubs also interested.
It will reportedly take at least double the £30 million Newcastle paid to bring them to the table.
Osula would be a fantastic capture for Everton if they can get a deal over the line.
The 22-year-old scored a brace to all but relegate West Ham United over the weekend, taking his tally to nine goals in 34 appearances.
Moyes does not possess a striker with the Dane’s explosiveness, movement or instinctive finishing ability.
He is quicker, sharper and far more clinical than the options currently available to the Everton boss.
There are still areas of his game that need polishing. Osula is not the traditional battering ram centre-forward Moyes has often preferred.
He does not dominate aerially in the same way Beto can, nor is he the biggest physical presence inside the box.
But what he would offer Everton is unpredictability, aggression in transition and the ability to terrorise defenders when attacking space.
His ceiling remains extremely high. He has shown flashes of a devastating forward capable of deciding games on his own.
Under Moyes’ guidance, Osula could smooth out the rougher edges of his game and mature into a complete Premier League striker.
